Interlude 2024

Help us spread a million acts of love this holiday season

We are excited to let you know that our online Interlude Holiday program (which we have run every December for the past 4 years) is expanding. The purpose of this program has always been to create a space of healing, connection and reflection; an opportunity to “pause” during the busyness of the holiday season, which we know can be a difficult time for people who are grieving.

This year, we’d like to invite you to join us on Saturday, December 14th, either virtually or in person, for an Interlude program that still involves connecting with your Lumara friends and family but also involves an intentional effort to help us spread “a million acts of love” to people in need of comfort, joy, warmth, and food in our local communities.

Our online program, hosted by our wonderful Music Director Meg Jackson, will run from 1:00 – 2:00 PM PST 4:00 – 5:00 PM EST. Come online to say hello to other Lumara alumni and volunteers, tell us about an act of love you are doing (or are planning to do) in your community and enjoy some festive holiday singing.

Our BC in-person program will begin with an Open House from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM PST at our Lumara Program Office in New Westminster (located at 820 6th Street). This is an informal time to stop by, say hello, have some pizza, and decorate an ornament for our office Christmas tree. We’ll also be accepting donations of socks, gloves, hats and cookies for our Lumara team to take to Vancouver’s downtown eastside. From 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM PST, we’ll be heading outside to distribute our donations at Oppenheimer Park. Anyone is welcome to join us!

Our Ontario in-person program will start at 2:15 PM EST at the Lumara Peterborough office (438 Sheridan Street). From there we will be walking down to Princess Gardens Retirement Home to spread some holiday cheer and share some carols with local seniors. Singers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Afterwards, we will go back to the Lumara Office to enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate while we decorate ornaments for our office Christmas tree.  If you can’t join us for the singing you are still welcome to join us at the office at 3:30 PM EST.

The inspiration for spreading “a million acts of love” through this year’s holiday Interlude program comes from Felix, one of our Lumara youth alumni leaders, who created this initiative in honour of his beloved sister Lexi. Hope to see you all on December 14th.
