6th Annual Kirk Gaskell Memorial Cup

All are invited to attend the 6th Annual Gaskell Memorial Cup on Saturday March 25th, 2017 at the Evinrude Centre in Peterborough, Ontario, from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm. This event is great for individuals and families with lots of fun and activities. Featuring NHL Hockey legend, Steve Larmer, as honorary team captain!

In 2012, the Gaskell Cup started out as a simple fundraiser for Kirk Gaskell’s young family after he was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 33. Sadly, Kirk passed away in that same year.

This three-on-three pond style hockey tournament has only grown since that very cold day in 2012. The tournament has moved indoors, honorary captains have been named, a kids division has been added, and an amazing atmosphere and tradition has been generated in the community.

From 2013-2015, the tournament raised $75,000 in order to sponsor a room in Kirk’s name at the new residential Hospice in Peterborough, ON.

HOPE (Helping Others Participate Equally) is the non-profit organization that runs this amazing event every year. This year, HOPE has teamed with the Canadian Mental Health Association and Team 55: Let’s Tackle Suicide Awareness, to create Project Hope. This program, still in its planning phase, will focus on the mitigation and education on the impact of concussions.

For the second year in a row, HOPE will also be supporting Camp Kerry Ontario, which has provided bereavement supports & healing for Kirk Gaskell’s family –  Angela, Madelyn and Michael.

Steve Larmer is introduced as team captain next to manager of development Kerri Davies of CMHA HKPR, Chad Marshall, Chad Cavanagh and Peterborough Petes’ president Dave Pogue during a press conference for the sixth annual Gaskell Memorial Cup for H.O.P.E teaming up with Team 55, the CMHA and Camp Kerry in honour of the Gaskell family on Wednesday February, 22, 2017 at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ont. The cup is named after local sports enthusiasts Kirk Gaskell as a fundraiser to support Kirk and his family during his treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
