Rose Family Student Bursary

In Loving Memory of Robert P. Rose

The Rose Family

Our Story

In April, 2017 our family had a busy life in Vancouver with my husband Rob and I pursuing our careers and raising our three children. Suddenly our life was turned upside down. Within the span of three days we were told something serious was wrong, Rob was admitted to hospital and had surgery, and a terminal illness was confirmed.  At the time, our children were in Grades 5, 8 and 12.

We had seventeen precious months before Rob’s death in September, 2018.  A year later we were fortunate to attend Camp Kerry in British Columbia and connect with other families who had gone through similar experiences.

We keep Rob in our hearts always –  his love, humour, patience and wisdom are touchstones in our lives through stories and pictures.   Our memories give us strength.

Rob was the first in generations of his family to obtain a university degree. He graduated with a Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1990, which paved the way for him to pursue a fulfilling career in public and private practice as a Chartered Accountant.

The intrinsic value of pursuing post-secondary education is something that Rob and I took care to impart to our children.  In honouring Rob, we wish to support others in this endeavour. This bursary will provide financial support to youth who have suffered the loss of a parent to assist them in post-secondary studies. We are honoured to partner with Lumara to launch and deliver this bursary.
