Our Programs & Services

Lumara is invested in changing lives for the better by providing an abundance of year-round services to bereaved families, those living with a life-threatening illness, and those impacted by death/trauma in the workplace. With our help, children are able to enjoy their childhoods, people regain hope and happiness, and families move forward in their processes of grief by creating positive memories together.

Counselling

We have a diverse team of counsellors and therapists who currently provide private sessions to individuals, couples, and families at our office in New Westminster and online to others abroad.

Bereavement Retreats

Canada’s very first family bereavement retreat – Camp Kerry – was created in 2007 by our organization’s founder, Dr. Heather Mohan.  It was intended to bring families together who had experienced loss so that they could embark on a healing journey in a compassionate community. Since then these retreats have grown and are offered in several locations each year: BC, Ontario, & Atlantic Canada.

Support Groups

These year-round bereavement support groups were founded by our very own Dr. Heather Mohan in 1998 and have operated on the North Shore of Vancouver, BC since then. Currently, we offer the Circles of Strength program on the lower mainland of British Columbia and in Quispamsis, New Brunswick.

Circles of Strength Online

This online community intended for people living with loss and those working in the helping profession offers an array of features to connect people across vast geographical regions. Some of the features include; forums, a chat room, image gallery, and more. Members receive updates about the Society’s activities, as well as opportunities for free tickets to community events.

Youth Services

This Circles of Strength Youth Program connects youth between the ages of 13-21 through activities, retreats, therapeutic group processes and more.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

This course is currently being offered in British Columbia through Douglas College. Through these sessions one has the opportunity to enhance their ability to cope with stress, pain, and the challenges of everyday life with grace and composure while being fully present and alive in the moment.

Community Choirs

These non-traditional choirs are intended to create an inclusive community for those with experiences of illness, grief & loss. Everyone is welcome and no prior singing experience is required to join. The song selections are non-classical and usually contemporary-folk tunes arranged to sing in harmony. Currently sessions are offered in New Westminster and West Vancouver, British Columbia.
