Grief in the Classrooom

Classroom Resources

Lumara’s Grief in the Classroom is an essential resource designed to assist anyone supporting grieving children & youth in recognizing and addressing grief within educational settings.

Conversations, stories, and art are all tools we use at Lumara to support children in making sense of their loss experiences.  We’re sharing some examples of those approaches here with the hope you find them helpful as you support bereaved children.

Given that a child’s understanding of loss is tied to their developmental stage, for each of the book and activity suggestions below we have identified an age/stage we believe is most applicable.

“I owe everything to what Lumara has given me… I am able to talk about my grief, I'm able to think about my parents and smile, instead of not being able to think about them without crying”

Lily, aged 17
