LUMARA is pleased to announce that we are teaming up with Niislaa Naay Healing Housing Society to provide support for those impacted by serious illness, grief, and loss. We invite you to join us for an experience of connection, healing, and hope in the village of Old Masset, Haida Gwaii from November 23 – 26, 2023. Whether you’re an individual or family coping with serious illness, grief, and loss, or someone who’s called upon to support others through their grief journeys, we’d love for you to attend some of our offerings…all are welcome!

While serving our mission, we aim to build capacity within the communities we serve rather than create dependencies. Over the course of these four days, we will provide several opportunities for Healers to heal, to share teachings, and to learn practices and methods from Lumara’s holistic, relational approach to addressing grief and trauma. Educational workshops, grief support circles, massage, therapeutic touch, expressive arts therapies and land-based healings are just some of the approaches we’ll provide.

In addition to dedicated workshops and groups for Healers, we will also have offerings for individuals and families seeking support and information on how to cope with grief, how to navigate parenting while grieving, how to foster an ongoing relationship with those who have died, and how to bring more self-compassion to your grief journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Attending the Retreat

What will we be doing?

There will be offerings for those who are grieving and those who work to support others through their wellness journeys.

Some of the offerings include; Art Therapy, Community Djembe Drum Circles, Educational Workshops, Fire Ceremony, Grief Support Groups, Massage for Elders, Meals, and Music Therapy.

Am I expected to attend the whole event?

So glad you’re checking this out. Nobody is expected to attend all of the offerings each day, nor are we asking that you attend every day. Everyone’s wellness journey is unique, so we want to provide opportunities for as many people we can while meeting them where they are at. Participants and volunteers are encouraged to choose the offerings they wish to attend. All we ask is that you register so that we can plan for each offering accordingly and accomodate you as best we can.

What will I eat?

There will be lunches and snacks provided at the workshops, and a community meal the first day of our offerings.

Can I bring a phone or electronic device?

In order to achieve the greatest outcomes and hold space that is safe, we strongly encourage participants not to bring their mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.) to any of the sessions.

Participants who are disruptive to others due to the use of electronic devices will be asked to leave the session they’re interrupting.

Is there a cost?

There will be no fees for any of the offerings at this event, but donations are always welcome.

Do I have to register online?
